Statement from the OFVGA on the status of travel restrictions for foreign workers
Date: March 20, 2020
As this unprecedented week comes to a close, the OFVGA would like to provide an update to stakeholders regarding the status of travel restrictions for essential foreign workers. The OFVGA was encouraged by today’s public remarks by Deputy Prime Minister Freeland, further confirming the conditional resumption of worker flow in the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program and the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
While we continue to be encouraged by the federal government’s progress on this issue, the OFVGA is waiting for more concrete details about the terms of this conditional resumption, including the specific details of the required isolation protocols once workers arrive. We also have yet to hear confirmation which countries are included and what the travel logistics will be. The OFVGA continues to work closely with all stakeholders, including with our partners at the Canadian Federation of Agriculture, Canadian Horticultural Council and F.A.R.M.S. to clarify these details.
The OFVGA will provide additional information as it becomes available. The continued support of stakeholders and the provincial and federal government is appreciated as we continue to navigate this uncharted territory.
The OFVGA is a proud supporter of the Ontario Legislature Internship Programme.
